Kentuckiana Pool Management is an authorized provider for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certification classes.  Below is our class schedule for 2012, along with the procedure to become a licensed Louisville Metro Health Department lifeguard once you have completed your certification classes.

March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28  Mondays and Wednesdays   6:00 PM to 9:30 PM

March 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29  Tuesdays and Thursdays   6:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Class #3
April 9, 10, 11, 12   Monday through Thursday   8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

April 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26  Monday through Thursday   6:00 PM to 9:30 PM

April 30, May 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23   Mondays and Wednesdays   6:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Procedure to become a Louisville Metro Health Department Certified Lifeguard

  1. Basic Lifeguard Training -  This training can be American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Assoc., Starguard.  These courses are taught in packages that include First Aid and CPR (32+ hours)
  2. First Aid - American Red Cross, American Heart Assoc., National Safety Council
  3. CPR - Must include: infant, child & adult CPR, BVM, two person CPR.  American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the professional rescuer for lifeguards.  American Heart Assoc. - BLS
  4. Louisville Metro Health Department Guard Course - Water Test course consists of lecture and water test and must be completed before taking the written exam at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness.

Once the Above Courses are Completed

  1. Bring proof of age: (picture ID, Birth Cert., Driver's License)
  2. Proof of Training - ORIGINAL CARDS (copies are not accepted)
  3. Name of Board of Health Instructor, Location and Date of Water Test
  4. Fill out Lifeguard 1 Application form
  5. Pass ; 80% or better written test
  6. Payment of $20.00 in form of cash, or check payable to: Louisville Metro Government (Duplicate permits cost $5.00)
  7. Board of Health permits are valid from Oct. 1  to Oct. 1 and must be POSTED at the pool you are working
  8. PERMITS are only valid when Basic certifications are current
